To Relish the South at Orange Beach Seafood Restaurants, Order Gumbo

When you travel to Orange Beach and seek out seafood restaurants, you’re bound to find a certain dish on the menu: gumbo. The dish is so important to Southern cooking that poet, actor, and Alabama native Eugene Walter once said, “Sooner or later Southerners all come home, not to die, but to eat gumbo.”

What is this dish that’s so quintessentially Southern? And what makes it a must-eat at seafood restaurants in Orange Beach? Brush up on these basic facts, and you could relish a conversation or two (aside from a delicious meal) when you eat at places where the locals hang out.

What is gumbo?

Gumbo is a stew made of seafood. It popularly features shrimp and shellfish. Meat sometimes gets thrown in, too. Bell peppers, onions, and celery usually flavor the stock, along with the all-important thickener.
